Meet Momma Lizzy

At What Grandma Said, we believe that the wisdom of the past can light the way for our future. Our story begins not in a classroom or herbal shop, but around the kitchen table where our grandmothers, mothers, and great-grandmothers shared stories, remedies, and wisdom passed down through generations.

The name What Grandma Said comes from a place of deep reverence for these traditions. It’s the whispers of an elder’s voice, the warmth of a cup of tea shared after a long day, the smell of dried herbs hanging in the kitchen. For us, it’s about more than just plants it’s about the connection to our ancestors, the land, and the healing knowledge they carried with them.

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have a grandmother who believed in the magic of plants Granny Quin. She was taught by two incredible women who shaped not just her life, but the foundation of our family’s healing traditions: Momma Lizzy and Momma Bertha.

Mama Lizzy, with her gentle hands and quiet wisdom, taught Granny Quin the art of creating remedies. She instilled in her the importance of listening to the land, to the plants, and to the needs of the body. Then there was Momma Bertha, known for her fiery spirit and unshakable belief in the healing power of nature. She taught Granny Quin how to honor the plants, respect their power, and use them wisely. Together, Mama Lizzy and Momma Bertha passed on their knowledge of plants, wildcrafting, and the sacred bond between people and nature.

As Granny Quin grew older, she took those lessons to heart, and I was lucky enough to learn from her. Over time, the world around me began to lose touch with these practices, and I realized how much this wisdom had been forgotten. People were growing disconnected from nature, from the land, and from their own intuition. I felt a call to reconnect to share what Mama Lizzy, Momma Bertha, and Granny Quin had taught me, and to pass it forward to those who were seeking a deeper connection to the natural world.

That’s why What Grandma Said was born. It was born out of a love for plants, yes, but also out of a deep desire to preserve the rich, healing traditions passed down through generations. I wanted to create a space where people could learn to grow, harvest, and use herbs in a way that is grounded in both tradition and modern science. Where they could not only make teas and tinctures but also understand the stories behind them, the cultural significance, and the healing energy that plants offer.

Our courses and teachings are designed to honor those folk traditions while blending them with practical knowledge that is applicable today. Whether you’re new to herbalism or a seasoned plant lover, What Grandma Said invites you to join us on a journey that honors the past, embraces the present, and grows into the future.

This version weaves in the legacy of Momma Lizzy and Momma Bertha, showing how their teachings shaped your grandmother and ultimately led to the creation of What Grandma Said. It ties the story together with a personal and intergenerational thread that’s both meaningful and relatable.
