Lavendar: The Softness We Keep Forgetting We Need

Hey girl hey.

I wanted to take a moment to sit in this space of stress… and relief from stress.

Because if we’re honest, so many of us have become used to functioning in survival mode that we no longer recognize what calm even feels like anymore.

In my previous blog posts, I discussed passionflower and skullcap — two herbs traditionally used to support the nervous system and encourage the body to slow down. Today, I want to discuss an herb that is widely known around the world.

Lavender.

And honestly?
There’s a reason this herb has remained so loved for generations.

Lavender is more than just a pleasant scent or something added to candles and bath products. Traditionally, lavender has been used to calm the mind, soften tension in the body, and create moments of peace in the middle of life’s chaos.

Sometimes the smell of lavender alone feels like the nervous system finally unclenching.

Lavendar (Lavandula angustifolia)

Lavender has traditionally been used to support:

  • Relaxation

  • Stress relief

  • Nervous system calming

  • Sleep support

  • Emotional grounding

  • Mild headaches and tension

  • Skin soothing

  • Rest rituals and self-care

This is the herb for the girls carrying stress in their shoulders, jaw, chest, and mind.

Ways to Use Lavender

Lavender Tea

A warm cup of lavender tea can become part of an evening wind-down ritual.

It pairs beautifully with:

  • Chamomile

  • Lemon balm

  • Passionflower

  • Rose

A blend like this encourages the body to soften and settle.

Lavender Bath Soaks

Listen a lavender bath after a long stressful day feels like returning to yourself.

Add lavender to:

  • Epsom salts

  • Oat baths

  • Herbal soaks

  • Foot baths

Then step away from the noise for a little while.

Lavender Pillow Spray

Lavender sprays can be used on:

  • Pillows

  • Linens

  • Meditation spaces

  • Blankets

Creating an environment that feels calming and safe.

Lavender Infused Oils

Lavender-infused oils are beautiful for:

  • Massage blends

  • Body oils

  • Body butters

  • Relaxation rituals

Especially for tension held in the neck and shoulders.

Lavender Facial Steams

Lavender also works beautifully in facial steams alongside herbs like:

  • Rose

  • Calendula

  • Chamomile

A simple ritual that nourishes both skin and spirit.

Ohh and one option I recently learned from Shamika in my Level 1 Herbalism class here at What Grandma Said, was how to make Lavendar syrup. Baby you can use that syrup on pancakes and you can even use it to make a cocktail or a mocktail. Trust me it is good!

Lavender reminds us that healing does not always have to be loud or dramatic.

Sometimes healing looks like:

  • Rest

  • Quiet

  • A cup of tea

  • A warm bath

  • A deep breath

  • A moment to yourself

So hey girl…this is your reminder to slow down a little. Your nervous system deserves care too.
