Lemon Balm: The Herb That Calms

Hey girl hey,

I wanted to discuss one of my favorite herbs that I have been leaning on lately.

Sis, these last few days have been packed with work, family events , my kids and their many adventures, my herbal studies, keeping house, and lets not forget spending time with you rsignificant other.

Girl I am stretched to my capacity and when this feels like I am carrying a load I know my nervous system is “stretched” !! But let me put you on a herb that soothes and calms my mind in the midst of these mini storms and prevents many “crash out” sessions — LOL!

Sis, I turn to Lemon Balm. Let’s get into her:

Lemon Balm aka Melissa officinalis:

is a fragrant, citrusy herb known for its calming effects on the nervous system.

It’s gentle. It’s uplifting.
And it works quietly in the background to bring the body back into balance.

When the body is stressed cortisol increases, Inflammation rises and your skin becomes reactive and we definitely want to minimize this as much as possible.

Lemon balm helps:

  • Bring the body into parasympathetic (rest + repair)

  • Support emotional balance

  • Reduce internal triggers that show up on the skin

Here are the best ways you can incorporate Lemon Balm into your daily rituals:

  1. Tea (most common use):

  • Add 1 tablespoon fresh (or 1–2 teaspoons dried) lemon balm to a cup

  • Pour hot water over it

  • Cover and steep 5–10 minutes

  • Strain and drink

This can be used during the day to ease tension, in the evening to unwind, and before bed to support restful sleep.

2. Cold infusion (mild and refreshing):

  • Add fresh or dried lemon balm to cool water

  • Let sit for several hours or overnight in the refrigerator

  • Strain and drink throughout the day

3. Tincture (concentrated form):

  • Lemon balm can be taken as a tincture (liquid extract)

  • Typically used in small amounts (follow product guidance)

  • Helpful for quick support during moments of stress or overwhelm

Lemon Balm can be used in so many ways but sometimes simply inhaling the aroma of crushed fresh leaves for a calming effect will get the job done as well.

So, Sis please go get you some Lemon Balm and definitely keep this herb on constant rotation.

I will be having several cups all this week.
