Let’s Ground With The Earth: A Earth Day Reflection
Happy Earth Day Friend!!
Earth Day isn’t only a reminder to care for the planet but it’s an invitation to return to it.
To pause.
To notice what’s beneath your feet.
To remember that the same earth that grows our food and our medicine also supports our bodies, our breath, and our rhythm.
In herbalism, grounding isn’t just a concept.
It’s something we experience—through the plants we work with, the air we breathe, and the way we slow ourselves down enough to receive.
Today is a gentle invitation to come back to that.
Grounding is the practice of coming back into your body.
It’s what we reach for when we feel overwhelmed, scattered and disconnected. It doesn’t require anything complicated.
Sometimes grounding looks like standing still for a moment, taking a deeper breath, holding something natural in your hands or sipping a warm cup of tea
Grounding is not about doing more and it’s about returning to what is already here.
The earth grounds us in quiet, consistent ways.
Through:
roots that nourish from below
leaves that offer gentle support
trees that stand steady through every season
And through herbs…especially those that grow close to the earth or beneath it. Plants like I mentioned in my previous post; burdock root, dandelion root and nettle. Those herbs offer nourishment that is slow, steady, and supportive over time. They don’t rush the body. They work with it. Just like the earth does.
One of the easiest ways to ground is through your breath. Your breath is always available and it connects you to your body in real time.
So friend, let’s try this simple practice:
Sit comfortably or stand with both feet on the ground
Place one hand on your chest, one on your belly
Inhale slowly through your nose for a count of 4
Exhale gently through your mouth for a count of 6
As you breathe:
imagine your body becoming heavier
feel your feet or your seat supported by the earth
Repeat for 5–10 breaths.
Let your shoulders soften.
Let your jaw release.
There’s nothing to force.
Just breathe.
